MOOC Massive Open Online Course – Khan Academy
Khan Academy is another Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) provider created in 2006 by educator Salman Khan, a graduate of MIT and Harvard Business School. Its stated mission is to provide ‘a free world-class education for anyone anywhere’.
All resources are available for free to anyone around the world, featuring thousands of educational resources. With over 100,000 exercise problems, and over 4000 micro lectures, on video tutorials which can all be viewed on YouTube, in many languages.
Khan Academy is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, funded by donations, now with significant backing from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Ann and John Doerr, Lemann Foundation, and Google.
In 2010, Google announced it would give the Khan Academy $2 million for creating more courses and for translating the core library into the world’s most widely spoken languages, as part of one of their Project.
In 2013, the Carlos Slim Foundation made a donation to Khan Academy to expand its Spanish library of videos.
