MOOC Massive Open Online Course – Udacity
Udacity is another Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) provider founded by Sebastian Thrun, David Stavens, and Mike Sokolsky.
As of summer 2012, Udacity had students in 203 countries, with the greatest number of students in the
- United States – 42%,
India – 7%,
Britain – 5%,
Germany – 4%.
For Course CS101 Udacity students range from 13-year-olds to 80-year-olds, with advanced 13-year-olds able to complete multiple, higher-level computer science courses.
Upon completing a course, students receive a certificate of completion indicating their level of achievement, signed by the instructors, free of charge. Additionally being developed through partnership with electronic testing company, students of some courses can take an additional proctored 75-minute final exam for a fee, (in an effort to allow Udacity classes to count towards a credential that can be recognized by employers).
As of 13 February 2014, Udacity has 8 full courses and 25 free courseware.
